About Me

My name is Fredrick Stanley and I am an advertising and public relations as well as a political science major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Hussman School of Media and Journalism. All my life I have had a passion for sports and writing. From playing on various school and club soccer teams growing up to founding and being the chief editor of my high school’s newspaper, I have always pursued my passions head-on. Going into my time at UNC, I tried to find ways for my two passions to go hand in hand.

During the fall of 2020, I wrote for the Daily Tar Heel’s Sports Desk, writing articles and live-tweeting sports events. After my time at the Daily Tar Heel, I began working as an athletic communications intern for the UNC Athletic Department, a job that I currently hold. In this role, I work directly under the Sports Information Directors for football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and several other sports teams. My duties include keeping live stats, writing game notes, live-tweeting, running post-game Zoom press conferences, and more. I have learned to use the programs StatCrew and StatBroadcast to keep live stats for soccer, baseball, volleyball, and tennis.

Beyond sports, I have found an interest in politics, with my competitive spirit drawing me towards political campaigns. In the 2020 Democratic State Treasurer Primary, I worked as an intern on Ronnie Chatterji’s campaign, helping out with everything from fundraising spreadsheets to speaking at events. Working on the Chatterji campaign allowed me to see how a statewide campaign was run up close. As one of just four staff members, I was able to work closely with the candidate and see how a campaign is built from the ground up.
